A side braid is one of those surprisingly easy-to-master hairstyles that can instantly make your outfit look more put-together. Whether you’re looking to impress your date, a work meeting or a casual night out on the town, this simple hairstyle is sure to be a hit!

Braids are the perfect way to frame your face and add shape to your hair. They are also a great way to accentuate your facial features, such as your eyes and cheekbones!

The key to achieving a beautiful and flattering side braid is to practice, have patience, use quality hair products and watch tutorial videos. The best part is that there are a ton of different styles and sizes that you can create!

How to Start a Side Braid

To begin making this adorable style, part your hair deep on the side that you want the braid to go. This will help to ensure that the braid stays neat and organized, avoiding any unwanted tangles or knots.

Next, divide the front section into three equal pieces to form your braid. Then, lift the left and right strands, and cross them over the center. Repeat the process on the other side.

Step #1: Separate the Front Portion

To start making this cute hairstyle, pick up a section of your front, closest to your ear. Then, separate this portion into three parts (the same as you did for the front) and begin to braid normally!

Once you get to the end of the section, secure it with a clear elastic. This will keep the braid from sliding out of place throughout the day and prevent your hair from slipping out of it!

Continue to braid this section until you reach the tips. Once you get to the ends, secure it with an elastic and tie it off with your favorite hair accessory!

Adding New Hair

To add more texture and depth to your braid, take a small piece of your hair from the left side. This should only be a tiny bit of hair, so be careful not to snag the rest of your hair when you do this.

Grip each of the three sections in your right hand, and then use your left hand to grab a tiny bit of hair from the left side of your head. Do not forget to leave a clean line from your temple all the way to the side of your braid!

Then, combine this strand with the other two in your braid and cross it over and under the middle section. This should only take a few seconds, but make sure that your braid is evenly spread out as you do so.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll have a full side braid!

When you’re done, slide a bobby pin in the bottom of your braid and pull it gently to give it a rounded and flowery finish. Then, spritz your hair with a few sprays of your favorite hairspray and you’re ready to go!
